Tilly Donner wakes up in the middle of the night to see a neighboring orchard on fire. Someone has purposefully started fireworks, which are illegal in the town because they once caused the entire main street to be burned to the ground. However, the next day she finds the main suspect with a knife in his chest and becomes implicated herself. Now she must prove her innocence and find the real culprit.
This is another cozy mystery talking about dogd trowing up. And cow poo. Was that really necessary? I find this kind of elements off-putting.
It’s not just that – pet companions and trivial things like hitting your toe on your bed frame are not written like something relatable, but quirky and funny, which only makes them annoying.
Still, I actually liked this book. The mystery was interesting and the book is extremely fast to read.
The tri-town concept is also pretty cool. There are three small towns at the same distance from each other which share certain services like police, newspapers and so on. This gives the author an opportunity to set mysteries in either of them, further expanding the world and increasing the number of characters we could follow.
This book was perfectly fine. It didn’t do anything wrong, but it didn’t do anything exceptionally well either. It was a great palate cleanser after couple of books that took me a while to read, but other than that it didn’t leave much of an impact.
